How we research, check and correct what you read on Lawyers Africa – and how to tell us when something is wrong or out of date.
For information only
Everything on this site is general information to help you find and check law firms and understand the basics of doing business in Africa. It is not legal advice, and a listing is not a recommendation of any firm or lawyer. Laws, fees, procedures and contact details change: confirm anything that matters with the firm, the official body, or a lawyer admitted in the country before you act on it.
Where our information comes from
Firm listings come from each firm’s own website. Information on who admits lawyers, legal systems, company registries, tax authorities, treaties and trade blocs comes from official sources – regulators, government bodies and treaty depositaries – and we link to them. Legal directories, rankings and review sites can help us find firms, but we never accept them as proof. Pages show when they were last checked.
Independence
We do not rank firms or publish awards, ratings or reviews, and we never present any firm as better than the others. Free listings are shown A to Z. Firms can pay for a labeled Enhanced profile or one of at most two labeled Country Featured profiles per country; paying never changes the A to Z order, what we write about a firm, or our guides. We do not take referral fees or any fee linked to a client or a matter. The full rules are on How we list.
Translations
The site is written in English and published in French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish with the help of translation software. Names of firms, people and official bodies are kept in their original form. If a translation differs from the English, the English version applies. Tell us about any translation error and we will correct it in every language.
Tools we use
We use software, including AI tools, to help collect, organize and translate information. Facts are taken from firms’ own websites and from official sources, not from the tools themselves, and listings are checked against those sources.
We welcome corrections and updates
If something is wrong, out of date or missing – a moved office, a new partner, a broken link, a regulator’s new website, a change in the law – please tell us. Law firms can use the form for law firms. Anyone else can email [email protected] with the page address, what should change and, if you have one, a source. We review every message, correct confirmed errors in all language versions, and update the checked date. Please do not send details of a legal matter.
Removals
Any firm can ask for its listing to be removed at any time, without giving a reason.
